When will the retail Radeon 9000 Pro/Mac version arrive ? That was suppose to be out in Sept, which is almost over.
Has anyone seen these advertised anywhere ? That will be a great update to my quicksilver.

heh, Apple can barely offer a 17" for $1000 ....
although- if they did make a 30"- I see myself making more trips to the Apple store, if only to stare and gaze. :D

I remember my first post here, so long ago... but then I already had a stupid thread about it, so I'll just say some of the first posts are very interesting. With some of these starts, I'd never have guessed most you would become regulars... just to fade into the mists like "iboy" and "gocyrus" (well okay, he went out with a bang, but still, he's not around any more :p)I think I'll stop rambling on now.

Hmmm.. I'm not a highly technical guy - not familiar at all with Terminal, don't really have an idea of what terms like bash, cron, tcsh are. I think this script is too complicated for the likes of me :) I went through it, but I have no idea of F@H is running, and it quit with an error.
It seems like mc68k's documentation is meant for those who are already familiar with folding & terminal, I was kind of hoping for a script that didn't demand technical knowledge.

The DRM has nothing to do with ITMS's business model.
The main purpose of iTMS is to sell iPods. iPods are the only players at this time that can play iTMS purchased music, due to the DRM. Tell me how the DRM has nothing to do with iTMS's business model.

Well, ummm... yeah, you're right. But still! Oh no... never thought of it. But! Oh wait, nevermind.
YES, it's possible.

Agreed. Nikon has stated that they're not going to be providing drivers for OS9, so I was stuck at OS 8.6. I did find (through MacRumors) that a couple of 3rd parties have a Photoshop Plug-in that I installed, so it now is working under OS9. I'm just not sure if going to X is going to "re-break" things.
I'd guess the reason you're debating between the 17" iMac and the 1GHz DP rather than the 867GHz DP is because you want the CD-RW/DVD-R, so in that case you have to decide this:
17" iMac is $500 cheaper, plus it comes with the 17" flat display.
1GHz DP is more expandable/upgradable...and is going to be about twice as fast in OS X being a dual processor...
If you were going to get a 1GHz DP, you'll also have to get a display. If you were set on an Apple 17" flat display, that's another $999. Maybe you don't mind using your current monitor, though, and that would save you the added expense.
Yes, my thoughts were to recycle my existing 17" CRT if I were to go with the 1GHz DP. I'd also make it a point to have a SuperDriver on either.
Judging by your 8500, it seems like you might be the type to want to upgrade your machine down the road...
Anyone who finds disassembling an 8500 to be "not all that hard" can handle any Mac upgrade :-)
I'd go for the 1GHz DP, but only because I'm big on upgrading my machines and adding in extra hard drives, PCI cards, and so forth. If you doubt you'll want to upgrade your machine, go for the iMac, unless the added processor power is really important to you.
If I pick up something that can be upgraded, I'll eventually do so (FWIW, my 8500 currently has 3 hard drives in it ... yes, I know that the chasis technically only is supposed to support 2). But I am getting tired of "mucking" around with the hardware, and getting distracted from doing what I should (like maintaining my webpages). To that end, I'm even toying a little bit with the idea of considering a TiBook instead of a desktop. That way, I could do some "work" in the TV room - that way, my wife doesn't feel abandoned :D

A Mac Mini in a car better have some serious self-powered heating and cooling system! Not to mention its very own waterbed for shock protection!
Or maybe it could stand the extremes if the HD were replaced by a RAID of flash chips?
Anyway, I bet the project will draw an upsurge of interest from the Windows switcher DIY crowd too! Might even draw some new people into programming Mac software :)
EDIT: Yes, OS X voice commands can trigger AppleScripts, and iTunes is controllable that way. (Better yet, maybe, with Automator in Tiger.) Unless the music interferes :)
I see no iTunes voice control scripts ready-to-go in Panther. But wow, Address Book is sure loaded with voice control!

Sure they both can go 60 mph but think about how much faster the 4 has to rev to get it going that speed? No matter what kind of performance upgrades you can add to that 4 cylinder it is still not going to be as efficent as a similarly equipped V-8. Think of it as Fast and the Furious vs. 70 muscle cars if you want to
eek! Another car analogy! Wheres KC! :D
Anyway, thats a good way to put it...but the easiest way is that the processor is more efficient. The Pentium chips work twice as hard, but get the same amount of work done as the efficient Power4 Lite chips.
Ok..that was also a stupid analogy...

Hi, just started the folding malarkey to bump up the MR team a bit. Have a wicked-fast connection to the internet (college connection ~ 20Mbit i dunno, never reached the limit!) and an iMac g4 1GHz working solely on folding.
The progress has been at 0.04% for about half an hour now, what am I doing wrong?
Top shows CPU dedicating 70-80% of CPU going on Folding (FahCore_78)

Firefox is a great browser, but Camino still has some OS X features that Firefox (at least for OS X) lacks that keep me using it as opposed to Firefox(close button on tabs, bookmarks menu in dock icon with right click, easier managing of history, and some others).
Firefox has its adavantages too, such as a superior search as you type.
I agree with Bendit in saying that Camino should die and have its features go into Firefox OS X.
Me three on the Camino merged into Firefox for Mac OS X thing. I don't really see the point of Camino anyway.

That or you can try them to get full blown Mozilla if they want some other stuff. Web sites can not tell the diffences bettween the 2 browsers. (Firefox is detected to be Mozilla 1.7 by sites which I though was funny but it is it base code so it makes sinces)
Mozilla sucks. I've used it time and again over the year and always end up going back to IE. Its slow to startup, its buggy, its got a rather large footprint. IMHO its not a good browser.
Firefox is THE browser to beat; its the anti-Mozilla. Its small, its fast, its robust, and its generally solid. Ocasionally I have the exe hang after closing the window so I have to kill the task to start up a new session later but I would say that's once every 3 weeks that happens.

1.67 GHz. my protein is p1147_L939_WT_298K, so I assume that falls into the 11** series you think of. Thanks.
I was probably just folding simpler proteins on my iBook then, I suppose?

1. New RHCP CD sucks if you happen to be like me and like their older stuff (Like Give it Away). I've had the CD and listened to it once and probably won't go back.
2. MS is announcing that they're delaying Vista even more and Nintento came up with a name even more retarded than Wii :D
3. Hopefully :)
