Agreed. Most TV's - and I dare say even HDTV's aren't designed for tasks like web browsing. I can't read small text off my tv screen with my pb hooked up, can you?

Before I sold it, I had an extra G4 tower hooked to my TV. I created a different login called "TV". I maxed the OS font size (16 pt), enlarged the icons, removed un-necessary stuff from the dock and enlarged the default type size in my browser. I also adjusted the display calibration so it looked nicer on the TV (A MUST DO!). Change the color Display Profile to NTSC (PAL if you live in europe). It wasn't perfect but it was definitly better than the default configuration. YOu might also want to adjust options for each game on your TV account to use the lowest screen resolution configuration available so it's easy to read the menus and displayed type.

I think that in order to see a 1.25Ghz chip in an iMac,Apple will first of all have to move beyond its current "stopgap"powermac range. They will need to implement faster chips aswell as true DDR architecture.God knows we may see a situation like last january where the lines between consumer and pro products were blurred for a while until apple introduced the 800Mhz,933Mhz,DP1Ghz range. The iMac certainly cant stay at 800Mhz for ever,a year has almost passed ,but since the current DDR implementation in the powermacs isnt yielding a great many improvements apple will have to hold back the imac in terms of processor speed and system bus. I think Apple should be focusing on the Powermac systems and get them sorted out, faster(Newer) chips, true DDR architecture etc. Then they can ramp up the imac specs and still maintain a sizeable difference in performance between the consumer and pro lines.

Is there any utility out there that I can add to System 7 Today so that my visitors can get in on the folding fun?
If not, somebody should make one.

Dude, I am a microsoft certified professional and spend all day dealing with PC problems. I have worked on the slowest ones and the fastest ones. The dual power macs fly! On top of that they do not run winblows. PC's suck because of the OS period. My mind will never be changed on that because I have almost 2 decades of dealing with Microsoft's crap!

Well I'll be ****ed and stuffed. Sometimes you get a good case of foot in mouth around here. I guess it's just that I have never seen a DVD-RAM drive without a case.

The fact that I'm posting this just 15-20 mins after your reply probably isn't going to assuage our critics :p
No, probably not...although I have to admit, after watching movies such as "Fight Club," I read your post and wondered if I just had no memory of turning into my alter ego and posting under my joey j alternate identity.
That said, I'm sure that any moderator could check our IP addresses and announce to the world that we are, in fact, different people....

It always makes my day when I stump a Mac employee. I feel like when you stump one, you should get their job. That would make for the best Apple employees. All the time.
-Apple guy: "24 tracks?"
-Me: "No, 48. Have your locker cleaned out by the end of the week."
kind of like killing the supreme chancellor of the klingon empire gives you the job of supreme chancellor?

Just a minute. You are saying that some guy working in retail sales is clueless and uninformmed. What do you expect? Comp USA pays like $7.00 per hour.
I remember being at Fry's (big california discount chain) someone asked a technical about a graphic card. The sales person took the box from the customer and attempeted to answer the question by reading aloud the back of the box as if he was helpig a customer who could not read. Of course he had no clue that what he was reading did not address the question. Fry starts new sales people at minimum wage.
I once asked a question at Fry's about the difference between two CRT monitors that for All I could see had identical specs and the same manufacturer. The salesman when to get his supervisior. The "expert" came out of the back room and said that one of the two hade "more megahertz inside" and he thinks the "co-processor is faster". I give credit the the saleman who admited "I don't know" then to his boss. (turned out one CRT had higher max vertical refresh)

I generally won't do ANY updates unless I'm done with any actual work for the day, and usually for the weekend. I don't trust those updates not to mess with my computer. To many loose rm commands running around to make me comfortable sometimes!

Depending one what you're trying to grab off the P2P network, Limewire has been good to me. All the ads you have to deal with is the "Buy Pro?" at start up, as long as you disable it's autostart it doesn't bother the rest of your system.
I've used a couple of them BearShare connects to the same network as Limewire and is decent too.
When installing these type of programs it's best to be careful and google the name looking for user reviews.

Lucky you, having a Mac Pro I presume! For now, folding is simulated trough Rosetta, it isn't native yet for the Intel procs. So for a quad core the best app you can use is Increase, it uses all four cores.
Well, actually, I work at CompUSA, and all the Macs (All Intel, now) are on all Day, doing nothing anyway. I figured I may as well make their power usage worthwhile.
Hell, if I could find an automated script for Windows that would launch upon bootup I'd put it on all the PCs as well.
