I also liked FFVII but to a lesser extent. The game mechanics were very fun but I didn't find most the characters as endearing. I'm not a big fan of the "I'm-too-cool-to-care-about-anything" anti-hero archetype. Also, the main villain felt like a big pile of cool clichs bundled together. Still, its all a matter of personal taste and I can see why so many people would prefer FFVII over VI.

beyond this robin hood mentality
I think you may be misunderstanding the natural human desire to be free with a fairy tale. No matter where you look in history, humans are always trying to find ways to increase their freedom and decrease oppression. This is not "Robin Hood", this is nature.
If only people could work up a tenth of this kind of moral indignation over things that really matter, like poverty or racism.
Start working at changing the world from where you stand. No one needs to "wait" to care. And what you care about is of much less importance than the fact that you feel anything at all.

Sick of applescript programs for video conversion, here's my new Cocoa app written entirely in Objective-C, multithreaded, to encode a variety of movie formats into vcd mpeg1/svcd mpeg2, xvcd, xsvcd, and DVD ready for DVD Studio Pro format.

There is a variety of different options available for todays media afficianado, we find the format to be trusted by the experts, and that maintains the widest range of compatability is MPEG. (Specifically MPEG-1 and MPEG-2)
It has become clear to us that it isn't as easy as it should be to convert the wide array of available media formats to (S/X)VCD/DVD. In an effort to answer a large demand for a simple to use program that encompasses the large spectrum of options available to the Macintosh platform we are proud to bring you Echelon.
Convert multiple files
Echelon delivers the capability of converting a large queue list of files to a variety of different MPEG based formats (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2). It aims to employ all the complex video tools in one easy to use program.
Limitless customization
In an effort to accomodate your personal needs each file maintains its own individual settings. It is also possible to save your favorite presets for future usage.
Fast, Reliable, Simple
We have put in endless hours of research to only allow conversion methods that will solely yield usable end products. We aim to have a harmonious blend of intuitition and simplicity, the things you have come to expect as a Macintosh user.
Advanced User Features
In an effort to meet the needs of the varied levels of experience within our userbase we have implemented an array of advanced features for each encoder included.
Realtime Preview
In addition to intuitive graphical and textual progress indication, the user has the freedom to view the actual frames of video as they are encoded.
Multiple Effect Filters
From adjusting gamma (to be implemented later), to deinterlacing, to denoising we attempted to supply all the necessary effect filters for any of your desired outcomes.
World friendly
We will be localizing Echelon in multiple languages, and are up to suggestion for any localizations we didn't cover, dont hesitate to contact us with more language suggestions.

card technology seams to change so fast now it makes the computer upgrde market look positively stable - where do you draw the line in the sand and say enough already - can a geforce 5 or ati 9700 really do anything major to improve your current gaming experience that a decent 128mb g4 or 8500 couldnt? and if so is it worth shelling out the extra dosh or just wait a few next big things pass by before reinvesting

I always wonder wether people actually use visual plugins with iTunes
Everyone I know does. I like the built-in one because it has great motion AND album art combined. But I have about a dozen other visualizers installed too, and about half see regular use.
Not, of course, WHILE I am working :)
I think I'll try to find a DVI/I to HDTV cable and see how that looks.
That would be better--how much, I can't say... I've never tried it.
Browsing on TV is seldom a good thing. Witness the relative failure of WebTV. I use TV for purely graphical things: movies, certain games, iPhoto slideshows, business presentations, and iTunes visualizers.

The 12" iBook will remain in it's current form. I expect that if anything is done to the 14" it will get a 15" screen and a black case, labeled the iBook SE.

Cool... Apple is gonna come out with the "iCamera."
I suspect a release next Tuesday along side with the iPhone. ;)
Excellent! Now we can all waste our our next ten Tuesdays loading The Apple Store every six seconds to see if it has gone down to make the new iCamera available. Silly me, I thought that after the introduction of the MacBook, our Tuesdays were now empty voids.

Doesn't that just suck. And the worst part is keeping all the back versions because customers are too cheap to upgrade. We still have people sending us Quark 3.32
As for the price drop - maybe it will help to push some of these slackers to move one.
It's weird, I think Quark5 is one of the long lost mysteries of the world. Either people are using Quark4.1, or Quark6 -- never 5.
And because of how printers do keep copies of both Quark and InDesign, I will continue to use Quark since that's what I've been using for the past 11 years (damn, I'm getting old). Plus most places only accept PDF files now anyway.

There is obviously not much in terms of speed differnce. However, in the benchmarks I have seen in various places around the web, the older model is quicker. One place I saw the benchmarks were for Macworld Magazine to name just one. I dont believe everything I read, just ones that are backed up over in many different independant sources.

At home:
-My PowerBook- See sig.
-Dell 4550 P4 2.53ghz (rarely)
At Work:
-Dell Latitude D600 w/ 21" IBM CRT
-Various Dell Desktop Computers- The hospital bought 19" LCD monitors for them so I can't complain too much about them.
Can't forget my original Apple PowerBook 140. Too bad the HD died, it worked until a couple years ago :(

I didn't notice the user id of the thread starter xrhajj. I mistakenly got the idea from your d-link and ipod attachment statement that you wanted to transmit files with BT. I've been waiting to listen without wires for sometime now:) that's why I bought a T68:D sorry

the problem i see, in this specific case, is that (like jsw was saying, i think) all computer manufacturers use farmed out labor, and most, if not all of it, is probably not in good conditions. so, do you go without a computer? or do you buy the cheapest non apple alternative (which is all the more likely to be sweatshopped)?
i have run into this problem with other things, like shoes and clothing. i can find very few good non sweatshopped shoes... especially for specialized things like soccer shoes. new balance, and a few other small US made brands are the only ones i know of. but i need soccer shoes for soccer, so what do i do?
it's a dilemma that certainly goes beyond apple. i chose "maybe", because 1. i don't know 100% the situation with apple's conditions and 2. like i said, what sweatshop labor free alternative is there besides being computerless?
either way, it certainly concerns me. i just wish i had any alternative

If you were going to go with an x86 in a Mac you would face market pressure to go with Intel. AMD might be a better company in our eyes and might make better processors, but right now the entire PC market is heading the Intel way. It used to be that you could buy about as many PC's with Intel as AMD chips, but look what has happened in the PC world....almost everything factory built now has that "Intel Inside" Pentium 4 decal on it. I think it all comes down to perceived speed. Intel is killing AMD right now on numbers, and the companies want bigger and badder GHz numbers. I would think that AMD must be suffering right now because of the shift to Intel by companies such as Gateway, Dell, HP and Sony.
As for me, I think Apple should NEVER go with an x86 chip. I believe with the right resources put forth the PowerPC could be a superior chip and will end up having a much longer life for growth and expansion.
