Well its about that time again, I went searching and dug up the oldest active posters. The list is getting smaller. Here were the Criteria. Join Date Before 2000-01-01, Join Date After 2001-06-01, Most Recent Post After 2004-09-15.
Its only a list of 23, there are not even 30 people still active from these dates kinda sad.
The first name is the oldest active poster. I included rank too.

Making a chip die larger does not decrease it's clock speed (if so, perhaps you could explain the P4 and Itanium II?).
I have read some where that IBM has produced a hand full of G3 chips that test at or near 2Ghz.
Yeah, and you believed it? Sheesh. No way in heck a 4-stage G3 can get to 2ghz on current tech, it is simply not possible. A Power4 might be able to make it... but that's a 13 or 14-stage pipline. AMD made it with 10-stages when they went to 130nm, and Intel made it on 180nm with the 20-stages of the P4.
Now if they could only add an Altivec unit to a 2Ghz G3 chip then we might be talking but once again I understand that a big part of why the G4 chip has not increased in speed substantially is because of the Altivec unit. Apparently it's very difficult to print at smaller and smaller sizes.
You apparently believe things without enough critical thought. Notice how AMD and Intel each have SIMD units clocking at well over 2ghz. In the case of SSE2, it can even do things AltiVec can't.
A far more reasonable explaination for the G4's clock problems is that it is fabbed on a rather low-tech 180nm process and only has a 7-stage pipeline (short compared to Power4, Athlon, P4).
nuckinfutz:
Your definition of a "modern" processor is wholly arbitrary and holds no water. Besides SIMD units, other things are also very important, such as:
1) Cost: 750fx G3 is cheap. Fabbed on a 130nm SOI processes, the die size is a tiny 34.6 sq mm. Great for low-end Macs.
2) Power dissipation: 750fx dissipates 3.6W typical @ 800mhz, 1.4v. Great for laptops.
3) Size: 750fx is pakaged in 21mm x 21mm... something like .75" x .75". That is tiny, great for latops.
You also mention a 4-stage pipe vs 7-stage in a way that suggests that the 7-stage is better, plainly not correct. The sole advantage of longer pipes is that they allow higher clockspeeds, but a G4 with 7-stages at 700mhz would certainly loose in general to a 4-stage G3 at 700mhz. You also seem to think that the G3 clocks higher than a G4... also not true when speaking of the 7-stage G4. The G3 does clock "appreciably" higher than the old 4-stage G4 which topped out about 533-500mhz, whereas people have easily gotten their 750fx chips to 800mhz, in a laptop.
The 750fx is a perfectly modern processor for laptops, supporting the latest and greatest fab tech, a large L2 cache, 256bit internal data paths, and minimalistic yet sufficient execution resources. Even so it can often beat G4's when AltiVec is not useful. It does it's job perfectly.

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/hdmi-enabled-black-xbox-360-in-late-april-for-479/
Okay, assuming this isn't an April Fool's Joke (the price is quite awkward, but the article appears to be legit), I hope this means the Premium system gets a price drop. Price is a bigger hurdle for me. Then comes size (I have to figure out where to put this thing...), but I guess I just have to deal. It'd be cool if this means black X-Box's on the lower end models, but I doubt it. And it's very uncool the 120 GB hard drive will be available separately at $200 or under... Guess I'm sticking to iTunes for my media for a while longer.

I ran a quick check via NetCraft.
Windows Server 2003
Microsoft-IIS/6.0

The newspaper article said they got 300,000 "hits" a day. Now, is that "hits" as in logged "hits" (if so, that's not much), or is it "hits" in terms of unique visitors?
Pardon my math; this is being rounded off and done in my head:
A 50k page view, and perhaps 2 pages per visitor would get 100k per visitor. 10 visitors is a meg of download. 1000 visitors would be a gig. 300,000 would be about 300 gigabytes of download for a day.
No wonder the box died. A full T-1 would handle about five 50k pages per second, right? That's 300 page views per minute, 18,000 page views per hour, so, full T-1 capacity of about 432,000 page views a day (around 225kbytes download per second).
If they got 300,000 "visitors" (hits), that'd probably bring it to its knees.
And not to mention all the "hackers" who smashed it up pretty bad. Hmmm. I wonder how all those hackers got through to smash things up?
The proof is in the taste of the pudding, folks. Those screen shots looked amazingly like Windows with Mac OSX laid on top.
If it works as advertised, I'd buy one. If it's any thing like Virtual PC (usually solid, but slooooooooow), then, it's G-o-o-d-b-y-e.

beyond this robin hood mentality
I think you may be misunderstanding the natural human desire to be free with a fairy tale. No matter where you look in history, humans are always trying to find ways to increase their freedom and decrease oppression. This is not "Robin Hood", this is nature.
If only people could work up a tenth of this kind of moral indignation over things that really matter, like poverty or racism.
Start working at changing the world from where you stand. No one needs to "wait" to care. And what you care about is of much less importance than the fact that you feel anything at all.

upgraded last night. on the first launch everything worked well. on the second, well, it didn't start up anymore :P ..so I had to downgrade back to 0.63. I have to see what I can do about this. I wouldn't like to delete all my prefs and such.
anyways the 0.7 seemed nice. I don't really care that much about the icons next to the names because I don't want clutter on my desktop. luckily there still are themes for my needs. actually the only thing that was missing is translucency. That was one of the best things about the interface on 0.63.

Q: What is Apple's mission statement?
A: Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning desktop and notebook computers, OS X operating system, and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital music revolution with its iPod portable music players and iTunes online music store.

Oh no no I didnt mean you were bragging. I mean't I'm litteraly Jealous of you.
Jobs I can find that pay 9+ you either need to work construction, which no offense but I can't speak Spanish (its texas), or you need to work as a Telemarketer.
Night shifts at walmart might get that pay also, but I'm not sure.
I go to a community college right now so there is no housing help what so ever and the cheapest apartment with in 20 minute drive is 650 a month for single bedroom. With 16 hours for spring semester there was no way I could survive on the pay most places pay here... That is why I am jealous becuase if I was making 9+ oh man...
Sorry to hear about your dilemma- although, it is one shared by the vast majority of college students. I certainly count my blessings.:)
Although, my extra money usually goes to financing my addiction to all things Apple...... :D
