They are blowing it out of proportion.

What about Google? Why don't they go after them for tracking every little thing you do with their services. If you want to talk about a company that violates & then documents our privacy go after Google.

What about Apple? Why don't they go after them for tracking every little thing you do with their services. If you want to talk about a company that violates & then documents our privacy go after Apple.

    Don't be a fool.

Folks, I'm trying to run FAH on my i7 iMac. I put in "-bigadv -smp 8 -local " into the 'extra parameters' tab of the Settings app. I've got 8 processes going and it all looks good.

Apart from entering "3446" as the team number, do I need a passkey?

yes, you need a passkey to get the bonus. and you won't get the bonus until you have 10 units with that passkey.

but please let us know how long it takes to do a frame. i would like to know how that machine does

Just as others, I am waiting on the merom MBP. People are ansy about this because the current MBP is known to those who knew about the merom as a "place holder" until the actual install of the merom. the merom was built for laptops and of course the laptops will be the last machines to actually recieve it. The order in which apple is updating their computers with this new chip is not logical to the consumer but may very well be logical to apple $$$.

i find 17'' way to small for a desktop computer.

You what? Well I guess its a matter of opinion but a 17" with a decent resolution is plenty! Heck, I even know people who use a 15" MBP as a desktop replacement. :)

I just wish they could make open programs stay at the bar for easy access and that there would be a delete option in the right-click menu.

Reading through all the expectations in this thread has me thinking that there are going to be some veeeery disappointed people on the day this is announced.

I'm guessing it'll be something like Airport Express, but for video. With a Front Row interface and a remote. Watch videos from you iTunes library, browse the iTunes store, subscribe to video podcasts, watch streaming movie trailers. Maybe a built-in web browser. If we're lucky, it will be able to browse and play video from YouTube or other video sites. That's all I'm expecting, anyway.

you are right for version 1.0.
iTV will evolve into other many things as the time goes by. Just like iTunes 1.0 and look what iTunes is today.
I agree with you that iTV will be very straight forward when it comes out, but the potential is there.

All I want for MWSF is a new keyboard, because it's time we had some media buttons. And a paint app so that I don't have to buy Photoshop if I want to doodle something.

Lunja, people actually use media buttons? I wonder, do other people here want this? I specifically don't want it. I like the way my wireless kb looks now.

Anyway, the paint program thing is one that thousands of switchers comment on. I do rather agree that there's no good simple answer to that one. Not that Apple shouldn't just bundle something simple, but apparently one MR member went so far as to write the thing himself (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=159877&highlight=posterpaint)! :D

But then again, look how aggressively priced the Mac Pros are. My out-'n-left-field wishful thinking says:

    17" iMac - $999
    20" iMac - $1,499
    23" iMac - $1,999

BTW, I adjusted my post to:

    17" iMac - $1,199 - 2GHz, X1650 Pro 128 MB
    20" iMac - $1,599 - 2.16 GHz, X1650 Pro 256 MB
    23" iMac - $2,099 - 2.33 GHz, X1650 Pro 256 MB

Of course, only some of the folks at Apple know truly what the specs and prices are.

If iMacs don't get Conroe inside that is going to be SO WEAK.

2.33GHz is the top of Merom folks. How can that be the best Apple can offer non Mac Pro customers?

If you want something else the alternative is single-core 2.1 GHz G5 iMacs. I would prefer a cooler, near silent iMac because the speeds of even Core Duos are pretty damn good.

I think all those that want a 23" iMac that is chinless better hope for a Merom. I think conroe would be to hot, or does conroe run pretty cool?

Merom or Conroe wouldn't make a difference to the chin. An external power supply or a much thinner power supply is needed. As for Conroe running hot... no hotter than iMac G5s.

Apple made a device for these people - the iPad.

For a desktop, errr, what is the advantage over a mouse? A mouse is more precise and far more comfortable to use as your arm is resting on a horizontal surface. Imagine swiping all over a 27" iMac screen for hours. Neck and shoulder pain anyone?

    Touchscreen smartphones: Ideal
    Touchscreen tablets/netbooks: Has advantages
    Touchscreen desktops: No benefit

We're very used to using a mouse, but it's definitely not the most natural way to interact with a computer. It's not easy either. I've seen old people that never could figure out how to double click without moving the cursor 50 pixels from where they wanted to click.

I think Apple will use the iTV (can't wait to find out the permanent name) as their living room connection to many other Mac features.

The most notable of which would be iChat on your TV. It should be pretty straightforward to add a Front Row menu for iChat and allow users to connect an iSight to the iTV. Result: Instant video phone made user friendly.

I have a feeling that Leopard will be a lot about iChat and communications in general. iChat will likely move into the VoIP arena like Skype and this is where iTV and the iPhone will come in.

Apple is already a computer company, a consumer electronics company, a music (and other entertainment media) company and will likely become a communications company (a multi billion dollar industry). Apple stock is dirt cheap right now.

Whichever way the Apple store does it, buy or rent, Microsoft will do the other way in a couple years but will be nowhere as easy to use or as popular. But Microsoft will license it to thousands of other companies to set up their own movie stores and movie hardware and they will all be incompatible with Apple's store and hardware.

I can't wait for all the stories about Micorosoft's own "killer" new movie thingamabob.

in germany though it means you are banned from the left lane if it takes you so long to hit 200 ;)

Apparently the diesel Cruze tops out at 210 km/h (130ish mph); I'm somewhat surprised it goes that fast, though it has decent power and torque. My 1999 Nissan Altima manual was governed to 120mph, and although I did hit 120 in it once (:o), it had over 1500rpms left before redline, so it could probably have hit 130mph or more.

    I predict:

iLife '07 - 'Coverflow' integrated into iWeb and iPhoto, new & improved iWeb features, more themes for iMovie and iDVD.

iWork '07 - Pages and keynote updated, plus a spreadsheet app to take over from the now defunct Appleworks.

An extended Leopard preview, some new features and possibly a new UI(?)

iPod and iTunes - more movie studios added to the store, also available outside the US, slight revision to iPod range (increased storage?) - full-screen iPod event to follow in a month or two for full media coverage effect.

iTV - named and demoed, available today (but shipping in a month!)

One more thing - the Apple phone (all of those rumours must mean something)

I'm probably completely wrong, but I would be happy with movies and maybe TV shows on the UK iTunes Store!

I hope to god they don't use bluetooth. I've had nothing but bad sound quality with those types of headphones.

Knowing Apple, if they are going in introduce wifi/bluetooth, they will only add the feature if it is up to their standards.

This is the $64K question. Does anyone know when the X3000 is due to be released?

I was under the impression when the Core 2 Duos were released, but I hope very soon because they are a measurable improvement over the GMA950 which isn't as bad as everyone make it out to be.

    Very humorous. :)

I don't quite get your comment. What was humourous about my age exactly ?

Unless you're driving a ...Honda... gear shifters on modern cars either are too "notchy" or overly-vague in terms of finding a gear, and the result is not very pleasant, especially in city driving.

Wait what ? Hondas are some of the worst offenders. Their last great shifters hail from the late 90s. Everything ever since has been downhill, at least here in North America.

We haven't even gotten a Civic Hatchback in the last few years. :( Honda is really turning into Toyota these days, dropping any kind of sporty feel and making point A to B cars and it shows in the driving feeling of those bread boxes. I think it's one of the reasons I switched to Subaru for my last 2 cars.

Anyway, the Kia my GF bought seems to have very well defined gates. I don't know if it's because the shifter assembly bushings are still brand new (only time will tell) or if it's because the Koreans are trying to pick up the segment Honda/Mazda left behind (young kids that want "sporty" compacts).
