There are two reason why this doesn't mean much. First, Apple may just cancel the accounts of anyone who tries to use PyMusique (that's covered by the EULA).

But can a user be considered to be a party to that agreement if they have not used iTunes to access the store - does the purchasing process still involve an agreement approval stage using this software? Presumably not.

    Huh...?

Apple seems to be acting more and more like Gateway and Dell, with their "Hot Deals" or "Double Your RAM" or whatever nonsense marketing has come up with this week.

How about this Apple: You send me the machine with no RAM, give me a $360 rebate, and I'll go to MacMall and get a 512MB of Viking RAM for $99 bucks. At that rate, I can "Double My RAM" for a total savings of $600 under what you're charging.

Just give us an honest rebate, or nothing at all. I'd rather pay top dollar for the new machines than shell out (nearly) full-price for these dusty ole' models.

if its going to be till november, well, we won't be seeing something new in January. Then there is the IBM announcement in October - timing just doesn't make sense.

A quick check at the Apple Store shows it will be mid to end of October - pretty damn close to November - this isn't good.

"Microsoft still wants to get it out as soon as possible, but slipping from January to March is nowhere near as bad as slipping from shipping before the holidays to after the holidays," a group of Gartner analysts wrote in the report.which they have already done what? 4 times? cant forget people: origional target was 2003.....

Whatever, it won't change the fact that Windows Xp runs on their machines.

Which is why Apple is gonna kick every PC vendors butt! Their new MacBooks are seriously SEXAAAY!! ^_^

Most likely not wiht the idea of scrolling long web pages (besides, a lot of scroll mouse users use the directional keys to look at web pages; i know i do!)

While the rest is all well and good, I have to ask: editing keyboard? Apple made an editing keyboard?

To everyone else: The one-button mouse is just fine for me. It serves all my purposes well, and I am hardly a novice user. Any time I need a contextual menu, I crtl-click. It's become second nature at this point. The only reason I would want a multi-button mouse is that you need one to run Maya, even the PLE version. Okay, fine the scroll wheels are nice too.

As the saying goes at Apple: "If you can't beat'em, dual'em"

I say whatever it takes to keep up. Doesn't bother me that there are two CPU's under the hood. Anyways I am sure that OS X is way more optimized for dual Processors than Windows 2000 or XP. Having OS X far outways the slight difference in hardware performance. OS X is specifically designed for Macs, and optimized to take full advantage of the hardware. No one that has a Dell, Compaq, Gateway...etc... can say the same thing about Windows. The only way that would happen is if Microsoft came out with a special Intel version of Windows or AMD version. Never gonna happen. I know most of you already know this but I just thought I'd throw it out there again.

A lot of linux ditros work without a graphics card, problem is you might need embedded hardware that is designed to work without a graphics card.

Cheapest way to build a headless pc is to get a cheap ass dell (yes, i know im sorry!!! :( ) with cheap ass integrated graphics, cofigure the machine, and then once its up and running to allocate less memory to the graphics card and more to the OS to increase performance.

Check to see if there is two under the same name.

    Nope, I only see one.

Also why is it using 8_%? Should it not be using 50% or 100%?

Not sure- I think that it might have been because I had just finished a w.u.

Right now its using ~95-98% of the CPU.

I started folding with the G5 home computer for several reasons. First, I leave my computer on most of the time and really like the idea that for pennies I can have an application working on something useful for other people. Since I work in...<gasp>...IT, I also like the idea that processor time there is serving some higher cause.

I also lost a family member to cancer, so there is some small motivation there to see if some cumulative work will help in the understanding of these diseases -- though mortality is part of living....

Another reason? To contribute to the MacRumors Team (http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=3446) effort and earn props for the team.

Taken from identical thread in iPod forum:

The entire idea behind this is flawed and inherently incorrect.

First, you cannot look at how much they make compared to us, no matter how little. It is a different country, with a much more different economy and poverty index.

Here are some figures for salaries of SKILLED workers in the PRC:

    AVERAGE ANNUAL PAY-CHINA
    Project manager: 12,173
    Software engineer: 6,998
    Accountant: 4,677
    Sales rep: 2,649
    Production worker: 1,214
    Source: Mercer Human Resource Consulting

A salary of $50 US a month gives a annual salary of around 325 a year. Comparing the salaries of these UNSKILLED workers to SKILLED workers, it is not entirely unreasonable, all things considered. I have no direct sources to quote, but the average unskilled worker in the PRC gets between $50 - $70 US a month. This piece of "journalism is merely designed to rally people against "evil" corporate America, and tries to use our sense of economy and monatary state against them.

Second, if they were not making iPod's in a "sweatshop", they would most certainly not be making anywhere near what they are getting now.

Don't even try to look at your 6-10 USD/hour and make a comparison.

New things that could be added to TiBook:

    1. Upgradable daughtercard for more memory on videocards.
    2. A second Firewire port. Gigawire as soon as introduced on desktops.
    3. Return of Infrared
    4. Bluetooth
    5. Built in power supply - I know it would make it heavier, but notebook power supplies are among the most frequently returned item. If they used standard three prong power, they could avoid a lot of returns. Leave it to Apple to figure out a way to make one lighter.
    6. RAM upgradable to 2 GB.
    7. Fix the airport problem - still not fixed under the current revision. Some people I know still only get 10 feet of range.
    8. Use paint that doesn't scratch so easily.
    9. A 17" display like the Flat Panel iMac in dimensions for better
    DVD viewing.
    10. A DVD burner.
    11. As I mentioned before, a foldable OLED screen would be nice.
