Bud, that 970 is vaporware. Nobody knows what kind of performance it may have. I wouldn't bet a billion dollar company on a product that not here, and may never work as claim. CEO's and directors aren't that stupid.

And I have seen the 970's numbers. It's not even as fast as the 1GHZ Itanium 2. So there is no competition. Just more hot air from IBM. IBM can't compete in the chip market with Intel, nobody can, and nobody ever will. Whoever has the most money always wins, and Intel has got the most mula. IBM has too many forks in the fire.

And the 4.4 Ghz Pentium IV is not vaporware? The 970 was announced at the Microprocessor forum....I've heard no news that a 4.4 Ghz Pentium IV has been announced. And I'm turning off email notification, so if you want to contact me, you'll have to hit the email below.

If I had to buy a new cube computer tomorrow it would be Panasonics Game Qube. The awesome little thing is a Nintendo built for the home entertainment system.

Damn, why can't they just make a new one. We don't need the same game over and over with little cool things added to it.

Well, it's cheaper to re-release a game with better graphics than it is to produce a sequel. The game is already laid out for them...All they have to do is reprogram, improve visuals, and throw in extras. It's cheap enough that they can keep it exclusive.

Anyway, like I said before, they're probably just testing the PS3 market (especially in Japan) to see if there are better profits than the 360 market. It's not disappointing as a re-release, especially if you haven't played it before. I don't know the sales figures for the original and black, so maybe if they did bad for the Xbox, it might do good for the PS3. We'll see.

It's easy to rebut that some of the above will not be directly affected, but every bump in the status quo creates a ripple that might grow out of hand.

InDesign by itself cannot solve all of these problems, merely because it is OS X compatible.

ever heard of PDF workflow? I don't understand where you can get off making dangerous statements that seems to inexplicably link Quark to the d-2-p presses and imagesetters.

Archives of editorial/ad material? ID does a DAMN good conversion. 98% on complex documents, simple docs, 100%.

I converted a 40+ page catalgoue from a Quark file to ID, did all the redesigning, floated in new pics, made some new graphic work and didn't need a gajillion EPS files, produced one high-res PDF file, and emailed it to my printer. It worked flawlessly. They can then take the PDF and make their press sheet from it. Do their little offset printer thing. And yes, I send these to people who use new direct-to-plate machines, old school offset machines, 2 color, 4 color, 6 color and 10 color presses AND even a good ol' color copier.

Have never had a postscript problem with ID, baby. Quark? Seems to crash their machines thrice daily.

On the plug-in issue, let's face it. Quark should have 99% of the functionality that you have to pruchase via plug-ins. I mean, come on! $700 for a program, then you have to shell out cash to make the f*ckin' pasteboard bigger????

Or god forbid you typeset in, say, german. You then have to pay $1499 or whatever for Quark Passport. ID? Has ALL the functionality one could need built right in (i.e. no plugins), works seemlessly with a PDF workflow, making it supremely compatible, has international dictionaries (for those big-time print jobs that I often get where I have to typeset in german, spanish, italian, etc. This opposed to the ink-jet ones you seem to think i work on) , and costs about $700 less, after buying plug-ins to match ID for fucntionality and the "passport" version of Quark.

Oh. But i can fo html in Quark. That's such a useful feature of 5. I'm pissed I wasted my cash on Dreamweaver.....

You might well be right, but good luck trying to explain anything novel and technical to the police if it doesn't involve war-driving or hasn't been featured in the tabloids.

With the best will in the world, it may also be hard for them to accept your word for it in this matter without independent certified experts or a pre-existing writeup in their manual.

Wait 10 years, then try again, and you'll have a new generation of young coppers who all played with xbox when they were kids and will understand you perfectly.

The guy working on my case actually understands most of what I am telling him. He knows quite a bit about networking and how a wireless network works. I did have to explain to one officer that an IP address on a wireless network was not a physical location. I think she thought it was an exact location of where a device was located.

Well $1000 is grand larceny. Thats not to be taken lightly. Do you know anybody in law enforcement where you live? I would take you're logs that you have made to the police. Ask to sit down with somebody and go over all the logs. Explain it to them like its 3rd grade math.

Also check the local pawn stores, ask if they have any 360s. First place to look when you get something stolen.

I've been checking up on the local game shops and a few pawn shops in the area.

Whoever stole it is still going online with it although they have not played a game. I had the Monster HD cables for the system and they only work on an HD TV. You hook it up to an SD TV and you get no video at all. I think they keep powering up the system and trying to make it work but have no clue what they are doing.

I push FireFox on every single person I come across using IE. As the program is free for anyone and is community supported I have no qualms plugging it like it's nobody's business. As long as it remains free, I will always support and push it others. Once (if ever) they charge for it, I will still tell people to get it, but not as much.

It is truly a great browser, made by some fantastic people. Microsoft may have won the battle against Netscape but the war for the internet is far from over.

Sticky Windows brings tabbed browsing to the desktop. It lets you create little tabs that you can position either on the left ,right or bottom edge of the screen.

say you've got a Finder window, you want to keep it handy for later use. you drag it until your cursor is on the edge of the screen, then creates a tab and the window disappears. when you click the tab, the Finder window re-appears. and this works for all windows you might have open.

a really neat app that i've been using a bit lately, i was surprised to not already see it posted here, so here it is. :)

Can't say that I'll have a use for it. I'll be rid of my loaner Dell from work by June when I'll have all the money saved for an MBP. But as a PC user I've been content with Office 2003. It's been great for all my presentations and document editing needs.

And nope not ugly. Not a beautiful presentation but by no means ugly.

I have a friend who is going to sell his PS2 along with 5 games for $90. Is this a good deal or I should look at a PS3. Is PS3's graphics so much better than the PS2?

    1)Great deal!
    2) If you have the $$$, you should look at the PS3. Much better graphics in PS3 games, HDMI interface will make many PS2 games look a bit sharper if you're planning on using a medium/large display (say 26" and up) with a good *internal scaler* that utilizes HDMI,(e.g. Sony XBR LCD's make SD TV and games look great, even with 480p signal). If multiplayer is your thing, PS3 will provide more entertainment from each game you buy that has a solid multiplayer component (e.g. Resistance:Fall...)
Playing only the PS2 will have you feeling lonlier as more and more switch to PS3.
    3) If you are a big GTA fan, then your friend's deal is a no-brainer. Otherwise you'd be better off buying a PS3 and then just renting software through Gamefly, gameznflix, etc
    4) Ask yourself how much you want gaming to be a part of your life. If you plop down the extra $$$ for the PS3, you may feel more compelled to use many of its features often enough to justify the purchase. If on the other hand you are only spending $90 then I can't see how you'd go wrong.

However, you can't buy a Macintosh version of the 4Ti 4200.

Since nVidia doesn't create anything but the reference video cards, various companies create the actual retail and OEM versions. Apple is one of the OEMs and they really don't see any reason to put money into a weaker card. Two levels (for the PowerMacs) is enough. Perhaps, if one of the smaller Windows video card players were interested in a small market, they could be convinced to sell and support their cards.

I think you need to take a long look at the world and consider what hackers have been able to do for YOU. Not all hackers go after a small website designed for a technical community. That's not the way to infamy (spell?). Most of it is political, monetary, or religious targets.

Very true Hackers and Crackers are sometimes helpful. This is a story about a cousin of mine. http://www.theos.com/dispute.html

it would surely cost a lot.

this is always the case, when new products appear in the market.

    i'd say 2000 $$$.

i am hoping though, that other companies would use this technology too, and not be dependent on Philips to use this technology.

i was never satisfied with philips equipment. maybe it is just me.

and if we need to resort to philips equipment, then i would want to have a choice of machines. philips needs to present 2 to 4 hifis within a month and not just one.

if we will see them in mwsf? good question. i predict, no. it is just too early.

and again, we are talking about apple here. we know how steve loves surprises, although he hasn't surprised us that often in the last few macworlds.

I'm using the graphical client from Stanford. Is there a better/more efficient version I should use?

When I was just starting I didn't want to have to mess with the trickier stuff, but now maybe I'll be able to.
And how would I go about switching from the Graphical version to something else without loosing my work?

    Thanks

ok look. you're still getting two 256 chips for 40 bucks. Stop bitching about the fact that its in two chips. If it doesn't work out and you get 2 256's, then sell them on ebay for a profit and get your single 512 for free. lol. I'd recommend just grabbing the extra ram for 40 bucks. simply because of the price its not a big deal. But when apple is selling @ their normal price, don't upgrade your ram w/ them, just get the base and order ram from somewhere else...www.pricewatch.com. you don't have to order memory from mac club or any lame catalogue like that. Its the same **** the pc's use. heh.
