No they won't. WMP's been able to play video and music from the WMP library since version 7, which was a whopping 25mb or 30mb download for windows 98 users over dial up.

I really wish Apple would spice up their UI though..it's so bland.

Last Friday I recieved my 2ghz MacBookPro. I have had minor heat issues, a minor processor whine, but most of all there is a big white line at the bottom of my screen that makes everything brighter. Anyways, I didn't even bother with tech support. I sent and email to a cerain email address, though I am not going to post it here, and the next day I got a call from the Executive Relations department setting up a replacement. And due to the fact that I am a student, they allowed for me to keep my current one untill the replacement arrived. Worked out great. So yes, you can email him and get things taken care of. I really, really think this shows alot about Apple. If you sent an email to Bill at M$ do you think you would get a call from the executive branch the next day? I really don't think so. I sent it after 7pm at night, got at call before 9am the next day on my way out the door for school. Gatta love Apple.

Yeah, that's the one, I thought it was common knowledge so I didn't describe it any better. It's not just with the download manager, I believe it applies to any window which doesn't have menus in the Windows/Linux versions.

I've seen a few like that but others I've seen have been corrected. Unfortunately, it looks like Gecko is more reliant on having good/correct HTML and JavaScript to work properly than most browser engines.

    Says RS/6000.

    yeah, but so what?

afaik rs/6000 was a server line at ibm which was rebranded the pSeries some two years ago...but they did/do use ppc processors of various flavors.

what i see from this message is that this patch enables altivec support on the powerpc64 target of the linux64 build of gcc, so if you happen to have a 64-bit powerpc with altivec, try to compile it on your box.

anyway, this might be completly wrong, just trying to show my pov.

A more interesting question is: Has anyone received an email from teh Steve?

I e-mailed one of "his e-mail addresses" a while ago and got a reply a few days later signed "Thanks, Steve". Doubt it was him though...lol.

    Back On Topic:

Called the Apple Store 800-MY-APPLE line and got confirmation that Apple will use that loophole whenever it wants to and that we can't be assured that a 512MB double order will yield two 512 MB sticks every time. We can't even specify that is the only way we'll exercise that option.

    So FORGETABOUTIT . . .

    Which Super Mario?

There have been quite a few

    :D

    N64 Rules!

As I said in my post, "Super Mario World," that classic SNES game.

I've just got my first - an old PSX. Oldish school (perhaps middle aged school).

Wow, I still consider this new-school. I listed my N64, but that still doesn't feel old school to me. I think you've gotta be talking SNES/Genesis or older. At the very least, you gotta pull out Sega Saturn (or Sega CD, maybe). I dunno, maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm becoming an old, old man.

Yeah, get ready to meet some real *interesting* people. You are going to be in the service industry and that means the customer is always right. You'll be dealing with many nice, understanding people but you will also get some that no matter what you do you will not be able to satisfy them.

Get ready for the late night calls that say, "you were here last week removing that virus and now my daughter can't print and she has a paper due tomorrow morning." You'll get all types of these--and even if you had absolutely nothing to do with the printer it will still be your problem.

Sorry to be negative. good luck with it and report back to us.

I appreciate what DVD Jon did to help Linux owners watch dvds, but this is going to far. I hope Apple come up with a fix for this, and soon.

How is this going farther than DeCSS for DVD's?

Last I checked, Linux users couldn't use iTunes DRM'd songs on Linux either. How is this different from the DVD cracker? Its purpose is to use digital files LEGALLY PURCHASED on a device of the purchaser's choice.

The only differences here are that 1) the offending company is Apple, and 2) The iTunes Music Store's terms of service agreement. By using Jon's tool, you KNOWINGLY and WILLINGLY are violating an agreement that you yourself agreed to.

I never signed away my rights to play a DVD on Linux when I bought it, for example, so DeCSS has a tiny bit more of a leg to stand on.

But, this certainly isn't "going too far"

Any recommendations for a 3rd party brand?

    Thanks.

I wouldn't be surprised by one, but I don't expect one. Mac OS has never been made to require a two button mouse, and for new users, its just easier.

Go buy a third party mouse. It will be cheaper and offer more functions than anything apple would make anyway probably (the pro mouse is way expensive for what it is). I got an optical Ms trackball with scroll wheel, two buttons and forward and back buttons for about the same cost as the apple pro mouse, and even that is really expensive for everything I got (I only got it because it fits by hand nicely).

Think what you want about MS, but their input products are top notch. Kensington is good as well. Logitech drags its feet on mac support.

Have the Apple logo work as a 2nd monitor like slide show.

and buy a new pair of glasses to go with it.

I just remembered my dream last night...it was a brand new wireless mighty mouse on apple's main page. The mouse was slightly larger than the current mighty and had parts in the front that were transparent. The whole mouse was rechargable.

And here's the cool part (I don't know how my brain works this well in sleep), there was an orb that you set the mouse in to recharge that is connected via USB to your mac. And that same orb is what contained the wireless receiver for the mac. Then for classrooms there was a big orb, that looked sort of like an iSub, where you could put 12 mice in all at once to recharge them quickly.

I just wanted to post this in case, I have any sort of prophetic powers, so it's on the record. ;)

It's a good mouse which I love. I use it on a daily basis.
I'm sure lots of mouses are better(*cough*iadmitmsmakessomegoodmouses*cough*), but for a mouse that comes with the computer and is white and pretty and can scroll horizontally and vertically.... it's fairly amazing.
So having this available in wireless would be awesome. I would buy.
And I don't know why Apple hasn't done it already. Is it that hard to make a mouse wireless?

well it took them thirty years to do the "two-button" mouse...apple works in mysterious and somewhat slow ways
