Is is an on-focus mouse-over effect coupled with an animated gif, as to how they achieve the magnification effect within the browser? Or is it Dynamic HTML or some new-fangled technology only created within Google?

How could those PS3 have such high numbers. They only have 3.2 Ghz Cell processor in them. 3.2 is pretty fast, but it is a Cell proc. Did someone forget to divide it through a 1000?!?

Quark is in the belly of the beast. I haven't used ID (Yet) but i do have to say, Quark does seem a little long in the tooth, on it's last legs for years. Now to scrounge up all the loose change to see if i can sport a new G4...

    Definately not.

Windows XP is one of the most overpriced crappy operating systems I have used. $300 to install XP Pro? Tiger is $130!!! And it actually works!

I was reading this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_vista) and I saw that Windows Vista won't include the Aero transparency unless you buy one of the "Professional" packages.

    Activation sucks.

Windows Installer barely works... half the time it would get to 97% and just stop.

Network Neighborhood (or whatever its called now) freezes everytime you click "View Workgroup Computers".

Confuses people and eventually it all comes to me. I am definately the smartest computer user in my school (after the IT guy who is never there) and all I hear is "Mike whered i save my project", "mike why is word taking so long to load?"

Edit: Forgot to say that it crashes all the time.

In conclusion, they suck, we haven't been hard enough on them, and their suckiness makes more work for everyone else.

    5. is BS, the new power supply has 400 watts - 40 more than the last model.

There are also two more drives to support, another optical drive, and increases in bus & processor speeds (yes this takes more watts).

Doesn't sound like overkill to me.

XRaid was pre-announced during the introduction of the XServe, everyone has just been waiting for Apple to officially intro the Raid drive holder.

    >(MacUser1) I'd like a 17" (or 19") widescreen, with a GeForce 4 MX or an ATI RADEON 9000, 256 - 512 MB RAM, 60, 80 or 100 GB HD, faster SuperDrive and speeds ranging from 867 MHz, 933 MHz and hopefully, 1 GHz :D

I would too, but you will not see that with an iMac anytime soon. Those would be very well fitting specs for our current PowerMacs, except they have dual processors. :)

I think the one thing that is a real stretch would be the 100GB Hard Drive. The only reason Apple would something that high is an updated PowerMac carries more significant specs.

The 19 inch model has been rumored many times before, yet I find the need to surpass the current 17 inch model insufficient, given that the iMac is for the avg. Mac user and the PowerMacs are Pro model machines, for the Pro users. They have more options, so they buy something to perfect their needs. Plus, they have the option to buy a 17 inch monitor already. Why include a 19 inch monitor on an iMac, an avg. user's machine, when a Pro user may only need a 4x3 res. monitor and ridiculously fast speeds?

Expanding further, I estimate that a 19 inch monitor on the iMac would alone cost at least $1000, especially with the quality Apple uses. And no base model of the iMac has never cost more than double that, as far as my knowledge provides. In that case, if a real powerful iMac with the given specs is made, it will cost more than the base dual processor PowerMacs, especially if you purchased the now discontinued 15 inch monitor or a cheap ext. monitor. So it won't happen.

I use Safari exclusively, usually easier to stick with Apple. If Apple were to buy Firefox, then I could see switching. My wife downloaded Firefox because of login problems with Safari, but she still uses Safari more.

This might not be the right forum, but, this really surprised me.
I was watching the 1984 Superbowl ad, and can swear I saw an iPod on the girl's belt!
I haven't reached any conclusions yet, but that really looks like an iPod:

I'm betting that we'll finally see updated iMacs. Although, my prediction is likely excessively optimistic:

    - 867 and 1167MHz
    - 133MHz System Bus
    - 256MB and 512MB RAM
    - Combo Drive and Superdrive
    - All 17" Displays

Yet, the math of my prediction proves that an update of this likeness isn't impossible.

    700 to 867MHz = 20% increase
    800 to 1167 = 32% increase

This would not be--by any means--the largest increase in speed known to an Apple computer. Besides, if the PowerMac line is moving to 1000-1500, a 1.1GHz iMac may not be far off.

Hey c'mon, there's exactly no more heat on a Powerbook than on any other Computer. Yes, you can feel thermal properties on a 1 inch thin computer (1 inch includes the flip up display by the way).

I use a PB 800 MHz - 60 GB - with 1 GB RAM. Yes I feel thermal properties but it is nothing to worry about at all. If your totally stressed about some people complaining about an electronic device displaying thermal properties, take Apple's word for it and don't listen; or take my word that these people are the same people who complain that their fridge is warm on top, or that the water tastes funny.

After hours of use, or after leaving it on for days and days, I can fold the PB up into sleep mode and put it in my Brenthaven Titanium 1 carrying case along with my Canon Optura 200 MC DV Camcorder and all the chargers, batteries, and cords that connect them and the total weight is just about 10 lbs (around 4.5 Kg metric).

I used to use a PC, but beleive you me, now I think they're PP. My name is BenderBot1138 and I'm very cool using my Powerbook. :D

Ever try and get a new AIM buddy name? Almost every combination you can think of that would make sense to others has been taken, so people make crazier and crazier names or just add random digits.
Thank God I picked mine up in 1997. :)

I would wait for newer games to come out that use the video memory and certainly upgrade to something more than 32MB of ram. Especially if you are like me and want to play your games in the default resolution for your monitor of 1280x1024x32. Hope that helps.

Whether or not a game is CPU dependent is not based on the Apple at all but totally based on the software developer and how the create the game. Unreal Tournament is a perfect example of a CPU dependent game and it is CPU dependant on the Mac and the PC.

I have a GeForce 4 MX, by default, and the 4MX has 64 MB RAM not 32 as stated above. For the latest games its quite good:
Warcraft3: 1280 res all details: great!
UT: even 1600 res all details is still cool, but resolution overkill IMHO
Q3: 1280 all details: couldnt be much better
Black&White: 1024 all details: does its job really good. Dont know if UT2003 will still be good with that card, but it should.

Yeah, the PC has games as dogs have fleas, but to the Mac come only the cream of the crop games
    I dont even miss CS...!

The original GF4MX that came on the mac was 64MB the one currently shipping in the new DDR Macs is 32MB.

I don't feel this is a great loss for this card because it has no hardware T&L. Also on the new DDR macs the card can access the ram in the machine at full speed bypassing the bus in what Apple calls DMA or Direct Memmory Access. This in a since gives the G4MX as much ram as the system can give at nearly the same speed as it's on board memory.

I know my Dual/Ghz/DDR machine with a Gig of ram and the G4MX has no problems with any game I run on it at 1280x1024 max everything. It runs between 60-80FPS with those settings in heavy action.

Anybody here ever set up a MythTV (basically, a homebrew Tivo)?

If so, what Linux did you use, and what hardware?

I'm looking at building one and selling my ReplayTv. Probably an AMD 1.8 GHz processor, 1 Gig of Ram, 100 Gig HD, and not sure of which TV cards and case yet...

Since I'm not fond of Linux (all of the installation and compiling BS) I was thinking of use KnoppMyth (basically, Knoppix(?) Linux with the MythTV installer that is painless to install on the system)
